COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) — Authorities have arrested a white man accused of running over and killing a black Georgia man who had developmental disabilities.

Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown tells news outlets that 27-year-old Joshua Anderson was arrested Tuesday in New York on charges including malice murder. Authorities say Anderson ran over 20-year-old Kevin Marshall after the two fought on July Fourth. Marshall’s mother has said her son’s developmental disabilities meant he had mental capacity of a 13-year-old.

Anderson’s girlfriend, Kendra Browning, was reported missing days after the death. Authorities said she may have willingly left with Anderson. She was found with him in New York. It’s unclear if she faces any charges. Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Gregg says the attack wasn’t a hate crime.

The sheriff says Anderson is being extradited.
