AVERAGE HIGH FOR JANUARY 28TH: 33°

AVERAGE LOW FOR JANUARY 28TH: 15°

MONDAY SUNRISE: 7:24 AM

MONDAY SUNSET: 5:17 PM

We woke up this morning with snow squalls across the Twin Tiers dropping a quick 1-2″ in some locations. Now we remain mostly cloudy and cold. Skies will begin to clear tonight giving way to partly cloudy conditions. This will allow temperatures to drop into tonight, falling into the single digits – well below average for low temperatures.

Sunshine will make a return early Monday morning before clouds begin to increase ahead of our next weather maker for Monday night into Tuesday. Winds stay out of the south 5-10 mph on Monday, but temperatures stay below average in the mid to upper 20s for high temperatures. As clouds increase Monday evening so does the risk for snow showers.

Tuesday we track our next snow-maker which could bring plowable snow to the Twin Tiers. While model guidance is still a bit uncertain, it looks like light snow showers could develop just after midnight Tuesday. Snow would then begin to pick up into the morning hours Tuesday and linger into Tuesday evening as a secondary low forms off the east coast. Formation of this secondary low is what still remains very uncertain – placement of this low will determine who will see the most snowfall from this system. As of now – guidance shows roughly 4-6″ of snow for the Twin Tiers. Higher amounts would be to our east in parts of Tioga (NY) and Bradford Counties. Totals will change drastically over the next few days as we get more information.

Following this system, we will watch another blast of arctic air funnel into the region. Highs Wednesday and Thursday may be stuck in the single digits and overnight lows in the negatives. This could also bring an issue of wind chill values – something we will fine tune as we get closer. Stay warm and safe everyone.
