An arctic air mass moves into the northeastern region Wednesday morning. Wind chill values range anywhere from 5-10 degrees below zero early Wednesday morning. Temperatures will be on the decline through the afternoon, only reaching the single digits through the second half of Wednesday.  Brutally cold temperatures and gusty winds combined create dangerously cold wind chill values. West winds will range anywhere from 10-20 mph with gusts upwards of 30 mph at times. Wind chill values during the day may be as cold as -30 degrees. Frostbite can happen in under 30 minutes to exposed skin, so it’s important to limit outdoor exposure. The chance for snow squalls are possible during the late morning/afternoon hours. Total snowfall of a dusting to 1″ for most of the Twin Tiers. This may cause brief whiteout conditions as snow may be blowing or drifting, dropping visibility.

Overnight lows Wednesday night near -10 degrees and wind chills as cold as -30 to -35 degrees expected. Skies will be partly cloudy and conditons will be quiet. Frostbite can happen in as little as 10 minutes to exposed skin with these wind chill values.

Dangerously cold wind chills continue through Thursday with highs near 10 degrees and winds staying strong. Most staying dry, but some lake-enhanced showers to our north and west possible. Mainly dry conditions continue into the weekend along with a warming trend. Highs reaching into the 40s by Sunday, but this comes along with our next storm system. Chance for a wintry mix to rain returns into early next week.
