A clipper system moves into the region Wednesday bringing possible accumulating snow to the Twin Tiers. Skies start off as mostly cloudy and will remain cloudy through the afternoon. Snow begins to impact the Northern Tier by the mid-morning hours, then will push into the Southern Tier by noon. Light snow spreads west to east this morning through midday. The majority of the moisture moves into the Southern Tier by afternoon and will hug the New York and Pennsylvania border as a brief dry slot builds into the Northern Tier. Snowfall rates for Steuben and Schuyler Counties may exceed 1″ per hour at times this afternoon. There may be a small break from the snow showers this afternoon but another round enters this evening.

Average snowfall ranges from 3-6″ with the highest amounts being in Steuben and Schuyler counties. Lower amounts will be for areas in the Northern Tier. High temperatures Wednesday approach 30 degrees. With calm winds Wednesday night along with the slight chance for a brief clearing in the clouds in central New York, radiational cooling may take place which will help overnight lows drop to near 20 degrees.

Snowfall tapers early Thursday as an area of high pressure builds into the region. Slight chance for snow and rain Friday. Highs Thursday near 30 degrees, then near 40 degrees for Friday. Next storm brings a chance for both snow and rain Saturday. High Saturday near 40 degrees, then another drop in temperatures Sunday into early next week.
