Happy Tuesday Twin Tiers! High-pressure beings to move eastward today as a warm front approaches our region, impacting us this afternoon. Winds will turn out of the southwest helping to usher in heat and moisture. Temperatures will top off in the upper 80s along with dewpoint temperatures around 70 degrees it is going to feel warm and humid when stepping out the door this afternoon. This humidity creates a perfect environment for storms to form, however. As this warm front pushes through, some instability is present helping to cause a few pop-up showers and storms this afternoon. We are not looking at anything severe, however, heavy rainfall is possible at times. Keep that umbrella in the car if you are headed out today, as these storms and showers being to form right around 2pm this afternoon.

Tonight a few showers and storms will linger with mostly cloudy skies. Low temperatures will remain very warm only falling into the upper 60s overnight. Rainfall totals from tonight looking to be around a quarter of an inch with higher amounts in localized areas. We then track tropical moisture that is leftover from Barry. This will move into the Twin Tiers for Wednesday and a portion of Thursday. Mostly cloudy skies will dominate these two days along with showers and thunderstorms becoming likely as the remnants of Barry offers plenty of tropical moisture to work with. Because of the heavy rainfall potential at times, flash flooding could be something to watch in isolated areas. High temperatures Wednesday and Thursday will be in the 80s with the humidity continuing.

We move into the end of the week with the heat really taking hold. Friday and Saturday we could watch high temperatures reaching into the low to mid-90s. Along with dew points in the low 70s, this could make feels like temperatures close to 100 degrees. We could also watch our first potential heatwave of the 2019 summer season. A reminder a heatwave is three consecutive days of 90 degrees or above – we will be able to fine-tune the possibility of this as we get towards mid week.
