Forecast Discussion

AVERAGE HIGH FOR JULY 5TH: 82°

AVERAGE LOW FOR JULY 5TH: 57°

FRIDAY SUNRISE: 5:38 AM

FRIDAY SUNSET: 8:46 PM

A line of showers and thunderstorms pushing through the Twin Tiers Friday evening into the night. This line has the potential to bring 2-4″ of rainfall, especially in Steuben and Tioga (Pa.) counties as it is slow moving with training occurring. After the first line passes, lingering isolated showers and thunderstorms still possible overnight. Warm and muggy overnight with lows near 70 degrees. Another round of fog into early Saturday.

The potential for heavy rainfall continues Saturday as a cold front pushes through the region. Best timing for showers and thunderstorms return afternoon through evening hours. Again, the potential for slow moving showers and thunderstorms and with plenty of moisture to tap into. Isolated amounts of 1″ or more of rainfall possible. Keeping an eye on areas prone to poor drainage. Also, the possibility for storms to produce gusty winds and hail. Highs Saturday into the low to mid 80s with dew points again close to 70 degrees. Heat index values near 90 degrees for the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms may linger overnight with another round of fog for late. Lows Saturday night into the low to mid 60s.

High pressure provides some relief from the rainfall by Sunday. This comes along with a drier air mass, decreasing our humidity. Highs for Sunday close to 80 degrees. Frontal boundary shifts to our south Monday as high pressure continues to build into the region. This should keep the Twin Tiers dry Monday and provide some sunshine. Highs Monday close to 80 degrees. Dry weather continues through Tuesday and most of Wednesday, then chance for showers and thunderstorms by Thursday. Highs next week close to the average for this time of the year.
