UPDATE: Freeze Warning goes in effect tonight for the Twin Tiers

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued the following weather alerts:

…FREEZE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM THIS WEDNESDAY UNTIL 8 AM THURSDAY…

  • WHAT… Sub-freezing temperatures with overnight lows ranging between 27 to 32 degrees in most locations
  • WHERE… Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga (N.Y.), Tompkins, & Bradford (Pa.)
  • WHEN… 11 pm Wednesday night until 8 am Thursday
  • IMPACT… Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops & other sensitive vegetation; possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

  • WHAT… Freezing temperatures are expected.
  • WHERE… Tioga county in Pennsylvania
  • WHEN… 12 AM Thursday until 8 AM Thursday
  • IMPACT…Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION... Valley locations and sheltered areas will experience the coldest temperatures.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Take protective measures now as freezing temperatures could damage or kill tender plants and vegetation. Potted plants should be brought inside.
