Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory issued for parts of the Twin Tiers

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued the following weather alerts:

A Freeze Warning for:
Steuben, Chemung, and Tioga (N.Y.) Counties from 2 A.M. until 9 A.M. Monday, September 21st.

  • WHAT… LOW TEMPERATURES FALLING IN THE UPPER 20S AND LOW 30S.
  • WHERE…STEUBEN, CHEMUNG, AND TIOGA COUNTIES.
  • WHEN…FROM 2 AM TO 9 AM EDT MONDAY.
  • IMPACTS…FROST AND FREEZE CONDITIONS WILL KILL CROPS, OTHER SENSITIVE VEGETATION, AND POSSIBLY DAMAGE UNPROTECTED OUTDOOR PLUMBING.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST ACROSS THE SHELTERED RURAL VALLEY LOCATIONS. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… TAKE STEPS NOW TO PROTECT TENDER PLANTS FROM THE COLD. TO PREVENT FREEZING AND POSSIBLE BURSTING OF OUTDOOR WATER PIPES THEY SHOULD BE WRAPPED, DRAINED, OR ALLOWED TO DRIP SLOWLY. THOSE THAT HAVE IN-GROUND SPRINKLER SYSTEMS SHOULD DRAIN THEM AND COVER ABOVE- GROUND PIPES TO PROTECT THEM FROM FREEZING.

  • WHAT…LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW AND MID-30S LEADING TO FROST FORMATION.
  • WHERE…YATES, SENECA, SOUTHERN CAYUGA, ONONDAGA, SCHUYLER, AND TOMPKINS COUNTIES.
  • WHEN…FROM 2 AM TO 9 AM EDT MONDAY.
  • IMPACTS…FROST COULD KILL SENSITIVE OUTDOOR VEGETATION IF LEFT UNCOVERED.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST ACROSS THE SHELTERED RURAL VALLEY LOCATIONS.
