Healthy turkey stuffing

ELMIRA, N.Y. (18 NEWS) - Healthy Turkey Stuffing

8 cups dried and cubed bread
2 cups ground turkey breakfast sausage, crumbled and browned
4 cloves minced garlic
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped celery
3 tbsp. olive oil or butter alternative
1 apple, cored, and chopped, your choice
1 cup dried cranberries
2 ½ tsp. dry sage
1 ½ tsp. dry rosemary
½ tsp. dry thyme
¼ cup parsley flakes
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
2 cups chicken stock
2 beaten eggs

Basic Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Crumble the turkey breakfast sausage into a large saute’ pan and cook until completely browned. Remove from the heat and place into a large mixing bowl. Add the olive oil to the same saute’ pan and cook the onion, celery, and garlic with all of the dry spices, until tender and translucent. Next, add the vegetable mixture to the bowl containing the browned sausage. Now, add the cubed apple and dry cranberries and mix to combine evenly. Place your dry and cubed bread in the bowl and mix until all of the ingredients are evenly distributed in the bread. Next, add the chicken stock and beaten egg and mix until all of the ingredients appear to be moist.

Pour the wet stuffing into a greased casserole dish and smooth the surface, taking care not to compress the mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour, or until a golden crust forms on top. Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving with all of the other holiday meal items. Remember that it is not a good idea to stuff your turkey, as there can be potential health risks involved. You will find this method will produce a great end product.
