Hello to everyone in the Twin Tiers! I send my greetings from Buffalo, where I have been since I left Elmira in December of 1993. It’s hard to believe all these years have passed, but I remember the kindness of the people from the Southern Tier of New York and the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania like it was yesterday!
I arrived in Elmira in August of 1987, three months after my graduation from SUNY Fredonia, and started as weekend anchor at WETM-TV, when the station was still up on Hawley Hill. I worked my way up to weekday 11pm anchor and even had my first child there! Cristina is now a senior at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, playing trumpet, singing, and studying to be a band director.
I took the job at WKBW-TV in Buffalo to be closer to family. I started behind the scenes, producing the 11pm news, but was eventually promoted to reporter, then anchor, and then, three years ago, was moved to the main anchor job. I wrote for anchor Keith Radford when I got here, now I sit next to him at 5, 6 and 11!
My husband and I also decided to expand the family, and I had another girl, Mary Jean, six years ago. Buffalo is our home, of course, but my family has fond memories of our time in Elmira. What a wonderful community, and I’m proud to say that’s where I got my start!
